'YSRCP has stalled Amaravati': Naidu hits out at Jagan after World Bank drops project

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu lashed out at Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and the ruling YSRCP after the World Bank decided to drop its plans to extended a $300 million loan for the construction of capital Amaravati."The negligence of the YSRCP leaders led to the World Bank withdrawing its loan proposal. From they beginning, they instigated and provoked farmers and even filed false cases. Finally, they have brought Amaravati to a standstill," Naidu tweeted."Since the YSRCP came into power, work on Polavaram project a nd Amaravati has completely stopped. They do not have the ability to finish tasks. All they know is to destroy. Because of the YSRCP's decisions, investors are backing out and more youth are now unemployed," he added. He also lashed out at Jagan for not discussing the World Bank's decision in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly."They are running away from the Assembly instead of discussing these issues. If the government itself runs away from the public's problems, then who can the people trust?" The World Bank website Thursday showed the status of Amaravati Sustainable Infrastructure and Institutional Development Project as 'dropped'. While there was no official statement from the international agency, officials from the World Bank told TNM that the project was dropped as the Government of India withdrew its request for the loan. The total project cost was $715 million and the state government in 2016 had sought the entire funding from the World Bank. However, it committed $300 million. After forming first government in residuary state of Andhra Pradesh following bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh in 2014, Naidu had announced developing Amaravati near Vijayawada as the new state capital.    After taking over as the new Chief Minister in May, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had alleged that there was a big land scam in Amaravati to benefit then chief minister and those close to him.
