Days after a Dalit woman was dragged, stripped and assaulted allegedly by TDP workers, Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan has spoken out on the issue and demanded action. On Tuesday, a Dalit woman was assaulted and beaten up in Vishakhapatnam district, allegedly by TDP workers, after which seven men were arrested. The men assaulted and stripped the woman reportedly after she objected to the digging of a pit at Jerripothulapalem village in Visakhapatnam district. Deeply disturbed by what he heard and saw, actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan took to Twitter on Saturday to urge the Andhra Pradesh government to take action against the perpetrators. In a series of tweets, Pawan not only asked the authorities to not remain mute spectators, he reminded them about Rohith Vemula, and how “it shook up the entire nation.” “In such incidents atrocities done by few individuals on one helpless victim or a group will get a caste colour, though the rest of the community has nothing to do with it. Crimes done by individuals on others will eventually be portrayed as community clashes,” he tweeted, asking the community leaders of the caste the perpetrators belong to, to address and publicly condemn the issue. He also said that he would be sending members of Jana Sena to meet the victim to understand what happened, and ensure that she gets justice. https://t.co/7YtUADI52C People seek an explanation from AP Govt on the Visakhapatnam incident where a helpless woman was brutally assaulted by some political leaders( as the reports say they are from TDP).I was deeply disturbed by what i heard & saw.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 Lack of stringent action by police & Govt on perpetrators will send wrong indications in public. In Situations like this I show restraint not to incite emotions as I had seen the repercussions of Karamchedu & chunduru incidents.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 Issue being extremely sensitive in nature, any kind of statement without a forethought would create deep fissures between harmonious coexistence of communities. — Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 If the Govt doesn’t respond in the manner it has to then the outcome for sure will not be pleasant one.Think of Rohit Vemula incident how it shook up the entire nation and request the authorities not to be mute spectators. — Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 If I come and address the issue personally,it would put a tremendous load on authorities in every way possible. Hence I plead Govt to make sure that helpless woman honour be restored and justice be done. — Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 In such incidents atrocities done by few individuals on one helpless victim or a group will get a caste colour though the rest of the community has nothing to do with it. Crimes done by individuals on others will eventually be portrayed as community clashes. — Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 Apart from the Govt & authorities,I also plead the community leaders of that particular caste (where the perpetrators hail from )should also address the issue & condemn it in public for the sake of peaceful coexistence & general well-being of society.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 And I also request Media to play a constructive & responsible approach than a sensational approach.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 If the individual rights guaranteed by constitution are being violated by any individual or group shouldn’t be tolerated and if the authorities want to do the spectator job in such situations then people will take law into their own hands. — Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 I also request the commissioner of Police and Collector of Visakhapatnam to stand by that helpless woman for speedy justice. — Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 I will also send members of Janasena team from Visakhapatnam to meet the victim & understand what exactly happened and to pursue the local authorities for much needed justice.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 And the NRI women who hail from different communities from Europe & US had sent me a plethora of messages in support of that helpless woman.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 In broad daylight, a group of men attacking a woman ... whichever community she could be & whatever the reason could be .. is not at all justified.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 Both ruling TDP - BJP & opposition YSRCP instead of mud slinging on each other they should come together & find a way to discuss & debate in AP assembly to avert future situations like this.— Pawan Kalyan (@PawanKalyan) December 23, 2017 After the incident, Greater Visakhapatnam CPI General Secretary M Pydiraju had told TNM that the incident had occurred because the TDP workers were destroying crops that the Dalit families, who were engaged in agriculture, had been working on. Dalit families in the area were engaged in agriculture after the government had assigned the land to them. “All of a sudden, yesterday (Tuesday) evening, TDP workers brought JCB machines and destroyed crops that were being cultivated. Because of this, the enraged Dalits protested. In retaliation, they assaulted her and tore her clothes,” Pydiraju said. The investigating officer had told TNM that it was only a land dispute, and not a caste issue.
